Hallmark manufactures graphic overlays using hard-coated polycarbonate, hard-coated polyester or UV resistant polyester to meet your project needs. A number of overlay features are available including transparent windows, selective texturing, embossing, abrasion protection and chemical resistance.

A graphic overlay is a screen or digitally printed product incorporating processes such as embossing, selective texturing and transparent display windows. Not only does a graphic overlay provide aesthetic appeal to a device, but it can also provide environmental protection. A graphic overlay can be used in an assembly using discrete switches or laminated to a membrane switch.

Embossing:
Embossing gives an overlay enhanced appearance and functionality by raising the button pad area. Embossing improves the functionality of the switch by providing the operator with greater tactile feedback. When used with domes, embossed keypads give greater flexibility.
Different types of embossing available:

  • Pad Emboss – raises the entire key area above the surface of the overlay
  • Rim/Perimeter Emboss – raises a ridge around the edge of the key
  • Dome Emboss – tactile dome formed in key area

Integration:
Overlays can be integrated with an electronics package, either a membrane switch or a PCB.
